If you live in Portland, Oregon, your garage doors will probably be shut a few Sundays this year. That’s because Portland hosts a special event called Sunday Parkways, in which walkers, runners and cyclists take to the streets for an eight-mile, traffic-free route, and residents park their cars. Besides for the exercise and fresh air, participants also enjoy performers, food and other activities. What began as a one-time event has now become a huge success, with upwards of 20,000 participants and five walks a year. While not everyone attends the event, most residents don’t object to some of their roads being shut down for a few hours a year, and the die-hard drivers take advantage of the car-less day and use it to hire Portland garage door services to repair slight malfunctions that they would have otherwise not had time to focus on.
