Raleigh was recently hit hard by Hurricane Irene which devastated the area and caused over $70 million in structural damage in addition to hundreds of millions of dollars in crop damage in North Carolina. It also resulted in six casualties and left hundreds of thousands of people without power. Garage doors in Raleigh were blown off, trees fell and crushed them, and wind shattered their windows. In addition, tens of roads were closed and many residents were stuck attempting to rid their flooded basements of water that had seeped in.
