Local police, in conjunction with Indianapolis, Indiana garage door services are investigating how an inmate escaped a work detail through an underground garage. Officials say the 21-year-old inmate, who was later apprehended, was serving on a kitchen maintenance detail when he escaped his handcuffs and chains. Police are puzzled both by how he unchained himself as well as how he escaped the garage doors in the Indianapolis City-County building. The inmate made it to Iowa before being spotted at a bar. Luckily the bar owner recognized him and alerted the police who swiftly arrested the man. Authorities say the escapee will be charged with felony escape and could face additional charges related to a car theft.
